Product description

The Wingless wonders refer to the England squad who won the World Cup in 1966 held at home. Resembling a 4-1-3-2 variating into a 4-3-3 in games where they had more possession, the tactics brought by most desired coached back then, Alf Ramsey. As wingers could fly across the sides, expanding the depth and ways to reach the net.

In a team combining effective box to box players with more technically gifted players. In a symbiosis of styles, Ramsey combined players like Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles, Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst.

The diversity of styles and mindsets enabled England to win the final against the all-mighty West Germany by 4-2 at Wembley captained by Uwe Seeler and with superstar Franz Beckenbauer. That 30th of July marks the first and to date only – an occasion that England has hosted or won the World Cup.

Also, this match was historic for Geoff Hurt´s hat-trick and for crowning the “wingless wonders”, on account of their disruptive narrow attacking formation, 4-4-2
